Columbia County Ambulance Service

In an emergency, seconds matter. First Responders need YOUR help to find your house quickly. Here are a few things that you can do to help us find your home:

  1. Display your house numbers in a prominent location close to the road where responders can easily locate them while driving at a fast rate of speed
  2. Go for function over style. Make sure that your house numbers are tall enough to be easily seen without having to completely stop and stare at them. Tiny numbers on a mailbox are difficult for responders to see, especially at night or in the rain.
  3. Make sure that the numbers are visible to people coming from both directions on your road
  4. Teach your children their full address, and display it in your home so they can reference it in case of an emergency. When people panic, they often forget their address
  5. When calling for help, let the dispatcher know if there are any road closings or detours along the usual routes to your home
  6. Tell the dispatcher about key features of your home that could make it easier to locate. For example, white house with a blue truck parked out front

The Columbia County Address Sign Program is a collaborative effort of First Responder organizations in our county. Emerson Volunteer Fire Department has purchased equipment and materials to make signs at a minimal cost in an effort to make signs both easily obtainable and affordable. You may order your sign online by clicking the link above, or you can download the form and mail it in. Signs may be picked up at our station at 218 S Pine Magnolia or shipped to residents outside the county for an additional shipping cost.
